All you need is grammar

When we write a profile of an artist, we need to date back to the past. So, to write well, you will need to make use of the simple past and past perfect as well as sequencers to connect all the events in the life of the artist.
But first, let's  see the verb tenses you need in the following section.

Before taking the quiz, study these notes. Just in case! 

 FOR SINCE

A period of time in the past, present or future.

e.g.: He lived in Oxford for 3 years and then he moved. (completed past)

e.g.: They’ve lived in Oxford for a couple of months. (began in the past and continues into the present)

With a point in time in the past.

e.g.: We haven't seen him since Monday.

e.g.: The children haven't gone to the beach since last summer.

Expressions with FOR:

  • for a while
  • for a long time
  • for many years
  • for ages
  • for ever

Expressions with SINCE:

  • since eight o'clock
  • since February
  • since he was a child
  • since last month/year
  • since the Second World War/ 1984
